Don't Worry
my cheese fiendy folks.
OKAY-SO is not dead. It was just on an unannounced hiatus that you probably didn’t notice until now as I am typing this. I have tasted a plethora of a queso dish so great in the past year, but my blogging brain cell was rendered dormant from cheese overload. So there, my infatuation led to OKAY-SO’s almost demise.
I will update you on some good and terrible...

el arroyo
oof. the day i mourned queso.
i’d like to think that el arroyo just never thought HEY MAYBE WE SHOULD DO SOMETHING TO THIS VAT OF CHEESE. LIKE. ANYTHING. i don’t know much about queso’s history and wikipedia provided a major fail in information, but! i gurarantee you that el arroyo figured just a plain, flavorless, stripped-of-everything mush of cheese to pay homage to first...

rio grande
oooooooooooof i have not posted in awhile. i bet your cheese deprived eyes have been waiting to soak up this review. the truth is i’ve been stricken with jobs and people and family and blah blah blah distractions from my mother mecca of righteous dip. i am so sorry.
so! between this review and the last, i’ve had queso at two different places that i couldn’t waste my...

torchy's
torchy’s tacos is austin’s cinderella story “restaurant”. the original torchy’s is still the most popular - in a trailer on South First (alongside Shuggie’s burgers & shakes and La-Dee-Dah gifts & treats). now with two more locations (and as i recall, a great temporary spot on 6th street during last SXSW), it is becoming austin’s favorite taco spot...

black sheep lodge
let’s face it - once this fairly new semi-sports bar gets its liquor license, everyone will find other shenanigans to milk dry.
i first heard about black sheep lodge from some stylists at birds barbershop, about how the place cannot legally sell booze yet, so they will give you two free drinks with a purchase of an entree or appetizer. of course, frozen margaritas won me over even more...

polvo's
i live in hyde park but the greatest concentration of queso lies in south austin. i went to polvo’s recently (on south first near live oak) for the first time after years of hearing delicious things but being to lazy to ever drive 5 miles down the road. but GAS IS CHEAP. and I’M DOWN THERE MOST OF THE TIME ANYWAY. WHY! NOT!
but let’s keep in mind that we came to polvo’s on...

trudy's
why not blog about my most frequent queso stop / story of my life.
so there’s more to Trudy’s than just being down the street and having generally good yumyums. but i guess since its on the border (ew, reminds me - never go to On the Border) between hyde park and campus, its either bro’ed out or filled with graduates who have nothing better to do. i’m the latter! the...
don't fret

chuy's!
so last night my comrades and i were treated to a free dinner at chuy’s. don’t ask how, just know our connections can get us that far! bling blang! i, being a chuy’s virgin, was brutally seized by its gargantuan food selection (i felt extra jiggly in the handles just by a mere perusal). but the queso? let me count the ways:
consistency = a pleasant cottage cheese-like...
